FEEDING THE FISH
THE BASICS :
3-4 kgs (10 scoops) per day is what AJS recommended. So can members make an effort to call in during the week until I have asked Tom Speake if he will take over for us. Leave a piece of paper inside the bin, saying the time you attended - or email or text me so we can keep tabs of what is going in and whats going on . WE MUST GIVE THEM JUST ENOUGH - in the same spot ( that group of four to five lilies to the left about 5-6yds out.
DUCKS SUCK
The mallard-cross ducks have already learned to dive and stay down for 10 seconds at a time (so make sure you hang around when feeding fish). Currently the ducks all pile in when you set off up the bank to leave. Although - I suppose that could be a good thing - as long as the fish learn to feed straight away. We don’t want piles of rotting cereals on the lake bed do we? . What do you reckon - leave ‘em or lose ‘em ?
Mike E - do you have time go over with a shotgun - take a few out if in season and as long as you will eat them if you wish - but we DO need to scare them away now - ditto the Geese, DO NOT SHOOT THE GEESE . If you can get there early one morning & see the heron - pls scare him off but DO NOT SHOOT AT HIM other than to scare it off.
Best to watch for the heron in lilies or on bank by far spillway from the comfort of your car on the road, and sneak a shot off at the water in front of it from 100yds away or more.
For the couple of syndicateers who didn’t make it - the first batch of fish ( 65 No 4-5 lb-ers ) arrived Sunday 8th and were absolutely stunning
The 2nd Batch of stock fish
For the ten who did not make it due to work commitments - the next lot, delivered Tuesday 8th at about 2.00 pm were just superb by comparison . Mike Elwell managed to attend and do the honours (thanks Mike) while Elliott my son took a few hurried snaps.
The balance of 35 No 4-5lbers actually ran to 6lb and 8lbs in some cases, and there were at least 12 No bigger fish around the 9lb & 10lb mark so all in all Anthony cut us a relly good deal. He said it had happened because he did not want to spend hours and hours re-netting and grading the fish to get the ordered ones and risk damaging the fish - and so - he just brought us quite a number of bigger ones. Naturally we were not going to complain on the day !
I will try my best to upload photos Saturday 14th - see STOCK PICS page
1) Find some particle food / pellets ( preferably protein based like good quality boilies) to feed them with for 2 weeks solid. [ Can I ask if members would all consider contributing £25.00 towards this purchase to help keep their weights up and our costs/kilo down ? Have a think about it and let me know if you would ].
2) Ween them off it for a week
2) Assess their behviour and then fish when we are sure they have satisfactorily acclimatised and settled in as they need to recover from the ordeal of netting, transport, handling and the new environment of Cottage Pool.
GREAT TO SEE THEM SHOALING . . . .
WILL NOW GET SOME PICS UPLOADED for you . . . ( from first AND second batches ) DONE
The 3 twenties confirmed for delivery “End October” . That still leaves the fish from Furnace Mill - but need to see the new Scalies settled in first of all . Please visit whenever you can to keep an eye on them won’t you ?
